I created a pistachio & sesame seed spread
Ok so this is something else entirely. I dove head first into the analog world and literally cooked up something delicious :D
It’s a bit weird to post about it because it feels very mundane. But then again, the whole point of this blog is about creating stuff. So I guess this counts.
I remember eating something delicious a long time ago when I was traveling through Turkey. It was some kind of pistachio spread, but it had this fascinating, absolutely delicious dry texture. I later found out the texture is much like tahini which is made of ground up sesame seeds.
Last week I visited Sicily and they have some similar spread there but without this specific texture. This reminded me of that irresistible spread I ate a long time ago in Turkey, so I decided to try to recreate it in my kitchen.
I had some sesame seeds lying around, so I went to the shop and bought pistachio nuts and rapeseed oil. I thought maybe cocoa would be nice in it as well. I couldn’t find cocoa powder so I bought cocoa nibs. They taste like alcohol, and very bitter.
These are the cocoa nibs:

Ok so I started by roasting the sesame seeds and the pistachio nuts in a pan:

I then mixed them up to a powder:

I added the rapeseed oil and some sugar, and a pinch of salt:

This is the end result:

It looks horrible but I tried it and it’s absolutely delicious. I think I recreated the spread from turkey almost perfectly. Maybe it could be a bit more grinded down but still pretty good.
I also tried to mix in the cocoa nibs, which gave it a bit of chocolatey taste, but I think I still prefer the version without.
So now I’m thinking, this is actually really delicious. And it’s not available in my country. We have some pistachio spread but it’s not very popular it seems, people don’t really know about it. I think this version could really sell well. But no idea where to start if I would want to sell it. People need to try it, only then will they be convinced it’s good I think. So selling online is probably not a good option.
